Mars Orbiter Mission(MoM): Importance of Mangalyaan for India!

Amid the applause I have heard voices of discontent which are questioning the MoM on grounds of the socio-economic situation of India. I wanted to address these being as brief as possible. Here it is!

Well, there are certain things a nation needs to do if we want to strengthen our voice in the international arena. Space research may seem discordant with the notion of Inclusive development, but it is indeed a vital aspect our growth story. Why?

Defense

Space research has helped us achieve excellence in Missile technology and related services with defence which are satellite dependent. The recent launch of 'IRNNS' is a testimony to the progress we are making. (IRNSS is an alternate to Global Positioning System(GPS), which is owned by USA; Russia, EU, China, Japan have their own Global positioning systems). Just because we live in a world which is in general peaceful doesn't negate the possibility of war. In state of crisis these foreign services can easily denied to India. And anyways a good defense system is always a deterrent.

Navigation

We all know how dependent we are on GPS for navigation. Now think about the security of a country who's army is dependent on US owned GPS for access of information. The same US which has jeopradised the cyber security infrastructure through its espionage PRISM program.

Weather Forecasting

Similarly we need satellites for weather forecasting. INSAT3D and Oceansat were launched a few months back, which have even helped NASA with weather information during SANDY. Excellence in space technology is an imperative for a disaster prone country like India. The recent J&K floods and UK disaster is an indicator that we need to progress much more in terms of weather forecasting and updation of warning systems. Space technology is a link which can't be ignored here.

Tele-Communication and Commercial Space Business

Satellites are primarily used for telecommunication, which is a booming industry. Security concerns over data transmitted has now even prompted Corporate Houses to go for their own nano-satellites. Also every country can't afford to launch their own satellite or simply don't have the capability, but they do need it.
In both the cases India has proved to be a cheap and reliable vendor. ANTRIX is the commercial arm of ISRO which deals with this business. India is already a hot property. Our most recently commercial launch was of 4 satellites from Canada, France, Singapore. With success of Mangalyaan the business will only grow.

A Branding Exercise

Thus with success of MoM India has shown that we have achieved excellence in space technology especially in Deep Space Communication and Navigation Control. MoM is more like a branding exercise and an effort to make our voice more prominent in the International community.

Mars Curse: Setting an Example

We must remember that India achieved this feat which USA, Russia(Erstwhile USSR), China, Japan couldn't achieve in their first attempt. All these nations failed and thus it started be called as the 'Mars Curse' This fact itself is a testimony to the excellence of ISRO. We successfully avoided the Mars Curse! :)

Why is MoM so significant?

Further If we are to become world leaders in future, a sound economy and strong technical potential is indispensable.  Look at any world power of today or yesteryear and you would know. Advancements in technology are often a result of research in space of technology. Many inventions in this world have come due to research done by NASA.

Finally,  I agree that India is grappling with problems like poverty, illiteracy,  human development, gender equality et al but we must realise that excellence requires continuous work. ISRO can’t sit idle, they also need motivation for good performance. MoM is one such endeavour.

And People who are cribbing about the cost i.e Rs 460 Cr . Well if you calculate it comes out to be a Rs 4/person. Not much I would say. And spending this much on missions like MoM, is way better than corrupt politicians and businessmen eating away public money.

Still we have a long road ahead of us and same goes for ISRO. We are yet to master our GSLV , which houses a cryogenic engine, and can carry much heavier payloads into the outer space. This translates into more no: of attached satellites and more commercial launches. Besides we can send more sophisticated research equipment in the outer space.

Anyways, The Bottom Line is:

'It is not the time to crib. We should be proud of India. It is a big achievement. Congratulations all!'

FDI in Defense: Boon or Bane?

FDI is a short form of Foreign Direct Investment. As the name suggests, is a form of investment made in India by a foreign entity. It can be an MNC, or a Foreign Government itself!

Nowadays a lot of debate is going on FDI in Defense. The Modi government's move to increase FDI limit to 100% in Defense was the seed to this contentious debate.

Is FDI is new phenomenon?

Certainly not. We have been witnessing FDI since a long time. Do you remember Lehar-Pepsi, Campa-Cola?? No?? Well, then you certainly can't forget these: Maruti-Suzuki, Hero-Honda, Kawasaki-Bajaj et al.

All these used to be prominent brand names when we grew up. As the Indian economy opened up only post 1991 LPG regime, ( Not LPG gas; it's Liberalization, Privatization, and Globalization) , it didn't open up fully for FDI. Thus foreign investors(companies) had to collaborate with Indian Cos. Thus these brand names came into existence.

Before going any further, I would first show you a glimpse of the Indian Defense sector.

How Strong is Indian Army?

India has the 3rd largest army after China & USA( in terms of serving personnel). However only Army doesn't give the indication of the military strength of a country. So how do we calculate which Military is the strongest?

A terms called as Global Fire Power(GFP) was devised to gauge the Military strength of nations based on conventional warfare capabilities over Land, Air, and Water. In doesn't include Nuclear Weapons. Here is the GPF ranking:
*I know what are you searching :). Pakistan is ranked 16th!

Now that seems to a respectable position for India. However, it also creates a problem for us. As everyone may have known, we Indians are not doing very well in indigenous arms manufacturing. India is heavily dependent upon  imports to maintain its arsenal.

India- The Biggest Arms Importer!
Every month you may have noticed a headline in newspaper mentioning a heavy defense deal with XYZ country for Fighter jets, Aircraft carriers, Tanks, Arms, and other advanced systems.

To give you a perspective, I must tell you, India is the BIGGEST Arms IMPORTER of the world. We only meet 30% of our military hardware requirements in-house , thus the imports. We are mainly dependent upon Russia for conventional arms. For other state-of-the-art technologies we have now started dealing with countries like France, Israel, USA, Britain etc.

We must also note the despite having a big size the military arsenal of India is in dire need of modernization. Our military arsenal is ageing quickly. Defense deals takes years to realise and that adds to the our misery. Remember the Khatara MIG-26 crashing every now and then!

What about the Missiles??

You must be wondering that how come we manufacture our own missiles and import other arms and military hardware. Well, say thanks to ISRO( Indian Space Research Organization). It is because of our advancement in Space Technology that we are able to replicate the same in Defense (Read Missile) technology. Thus we are the proud owner of long range missiles like Agni, Brahmos, Aakash etc.

Also we have manufactured Nuclear Submarines, again thanks to the Nuclear Program of India. Afterall we are a Nuclear Power i.e. one of the 8 countries which have Nuclear Bombs.

In other departments we are lacking. The Indian manufactured Light Combact Aircraft 'Tejas' took over 30 years to get completed. It got started in 1980s and just got inducted in Indian Army.

What is the problem with Importing?
You should be asking this question, that what is the harm? After all we import so many things from abroad starting from Oil to needles. Well, there is a problem. It may not seem obvious but there is. The two main implications are listed below:

1. Financial Impact

Importing advanced warfare systems costs dearly to us. Defense expenditure forms a large part of our budget. The foreign countries are earning on expense of our tax payers, making full use of our inability to produce in-house quality defense systems and military hardware.

These are the biggest exporters of the world as of 2012

1
USA
30%
2
Russia
26%
3
Germany
 7%
4
France
6%
5
China
5%

2. Strategical Disadvantage

It is not just the drainage of money into imports. We are heavily dependent upon the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) for repair, maintenance, and up-gradation of technology. This results in a perpetual recurring expenditure which is not adding any value to our defense resources yet costs us hefty.

Such heavy dependence lends a clear strategic disadvantage to our nation. Just imagine that we are expecting a war, and our exporter forced by some other world power deliberately delays the supply/repair work, or worse cancel the contract unilaterally.

Given the kind of neighbors we have, and the times we live in, it is of  utter importance for India to become self reliant. Agreed that it can't happen over night , but the process should begin now.

FDI in Defence
So, what exactly FDI in Defense entails? What is this percentage all about?

We now know that FDI is a form of foreign investment. Now this investment can be done by investing into an existing company, or creating a new entity all together. When someone invests in a company, he is in a way buying a stake in the company. So if you buy half the shares of the company, we will call it is 50% FDI. By similar logic, a new entity created by FDI would mean 100% FDI i.e. in full control of the foreign investor.

De-Facto Situation?
FDI does exist in Defense. It was decided that we need to augment manufacturing of military hardware in India, with target to meet 70% of our needs. The Vajpayee govt initaited FDI in 2001 and allowed for 26% FDI in Defense. It was subjected to approval from FIPB( Foreign Investment Promotion Board). Later UPA govt proposed to hike the FDI to 49%, subjected to following approvals.

26%
FIPB approval
26% plus
Cabinet Committee on Security
FII
Not allowed

That time also demand was for 74%. Why not 100%? Well, many critiques feared that 100% would jeopardize the security of our nation by making us completely dependent of foreign entities for arms and military hardware.

However the Modi Sarkar has gone for 100% FDI. Why? Well, the current percentage was not yielding India any benefits i.e.
  • Unable to help Indian manufactures to import state-of-the-Art technologies

  • Effectively decreasing the Import budget of India

100% FDI would allow for more control and thus attract more and quality investment, thus benefiting India. Ironically it was BJP which opposed 49% FDI. Well, they were pretty much opposing everything at that time. How quickly we forget though!

But what are the benefits of FDI? Well, it varies for different sectors. Let's have a look wrt to Defense sector.

Benefits of FDI in Defense

Boost up Domestic Military Hardware Manufacturing
  • FDI would ensure fresh investment. This will strengthen the existing industries. It will also allow for opening up of new manufacturing units dedicated to variety of military hardware. Foreign ownership would also ensure better manufacturing practices, thereby enhancing efficiency. A good revenue would ensure that the money goes into R&D for Indian defense requirement. This would all ensure that in-house manufacturing of much needed conventional and advanced military hardware becomes a reality.

Platform for Transfer of State-of-the-Art Technologies

The best technologies around the world would be introduced in India for mass scale manufacturing, thereby reducing our reliance on hefty, time and resource consuming exports.

Reduce Import Bills, Improve Economy

In-house manufacturing is bound to be cheaper than the imports from foreign nations. It will thus, in a long term, reduce the import bill. This would help reduce the burden of Current Account Deficit(CAD) and ease the Fiscal deficit, the two main indicators of a country's economic performance.

Employment and Skill Development

The new industries will need labour: skilled, semi skilled, and unskilled. This will provide for employment opportunities. Also induction of new technology will lead to skill development of our human resources. More the jobs, happier the people.

More Money for Social Service
The freed up govt resources and finances could be used for citizen friendly policies and schemes. The Budget would then focus of fighting the prevalent issues like Poverty, Education, improving healthcare, protecting environment et al, rather then waiting for delivery of military hardware. Like we did for INS Vikramaditya  :P

Strategical Advantage
India would, in a long term, be able to achieve self reliance in terms of military hardware and could even start exporting to lesser developed countries. This would do away with dependence on OEM for repair and maintenance and provide us the much needed flexibility. If need be, we can even arrange for over-night ammunition. This a very significant strategical advantage.

Concerns, should there be any?

Yes, having concerns is a quite a rational argument. However there is a way of negating, if any. We can't just avoid FDI on the pretext of 'jeopardy of Nation Security'. Obviously it can't be compromised with, however concern alone can't stall ones progress.

Anyways, there can be measures like the product definition could be given by India. We allow FDI to only those who are bringing in state of the art technology. Cabinet Committee on Security could overlook the whole FDI process et al.

The point is, if USA and the European Union have 100% FDI in Defense. So why can't we?

Conclusion

We must know that China is the 2nd largest arm importer of the world. Does that make China weaker than us. NO!! China indeed is playing a strategic game. I say so because China is also the 5th Largest Arms exporter of the world. It's main customers are neighbors Pakistan, Srilanka, Bangladesh.China controls 5% of world arms exports. Now that is substantial.(refer the bar chart) China is strengthening its military and also arming our neighbors. Whereas we can't even supply the much needed weapons to Afghanistan.:P

Look the stats below:

Not a situation India would want. Thus given the complex nature of geopolitics, it is high time for us to strengthen our selves, remove the inertia, and become self reliant. We have already fought to Pakistan and China. Let's make ourselves so strong (not on the expense of our people) that peace prevails.

Remember, Strength is the biggest deterrence to War!!

So FDI in Defense is well worth the gamble ( in our very own Casino) :P

Article 370: What is the fuss all about?

BJP in its election manifesto and across various election rallies, including those by PM Modi, had proposed to repeal Article 370.

What is Article 370, what is it's significance, and why is this debate creating ripples across the newspaper headlines ?

Well, I have tried to put all across as simply as I could, with minimal details , so that everyone could better understand the situation.

Why the Fuss about Article 370?

  • Article 370 gives special status to the state of Jammu & Kashmir
  • BJP wants to apply Uniform Civil Code i.e uniform applicability of laws for every state in India starting with J&K
  • As anyone with special privileges and autonomy would react, J&K is opposed to this idea
  • Thus the friction, which is evident by the tweets of Mr. Omar Abdullah , RSS etc

History of Article 370?

  • Dr. Ambedkar, the framer of our constitution, had refused to draft the Article 370 in the constitution
  • It was drafted by N. Gopalaswami Ayyangar, the Diwan of Raja Hari Singh, the King of Kashmir
  • Not present in the original constitution; included later as an amendment

What does it mean ?

  • It is a Temporary Provision from J&K
  • Treats J&K as a Special State i.e. grants Special Autonomous status to J&K
    • All provision in the constitution not automatically applicable to J&K
  • Parliament needs the state government's concurrence for applying all other laws, except for
    • Defense,
    • Foreign affairs,
    • Finance and
    • Communications.
  • Indian Parliament can't
    • increase or decrease the boundary of J&K
    • Change the name of the state
    • Apply Emergency Provision on grounds of Internal Disturbance without consent of J&K Legislative Assembly

The Rationale behind Article 370?

  • J&K was not ready for integration with India during Independence, given the unusual conditions
    • It was occupied by Rebels from Pakistan
    • Involvement of UN in the Kashmir question
  • It aimed at providing space for governance to people of J&K, who felt insecure about their identity and vulnerable about the future
  • There was hope that one day J&K, when real peace arrives, would merge with Union of India just like any other state.
  • Thus the term TEMPORARY PROVISION

How Special is J&K ?

  • Article 370 has been eroded in view of many presidential orders given since Independence; Thus as of now many Indian laws apply to J&K automatically
  • J&K is not the only special state; Similar special provisions exist for other states. For eg:
    • Article 371 ( Maharashtra  and Gujarat)
    • 371-A (Nagaland)
    • 371-B,………….. to 371-I

Can Article 370 be Revoked?

    • Yes, can be revoked by the President of India, but only on the advise of the J&K Legislative Assembly
    • Parliament can do so by amending the Constitution and striking of the whole Article itself. This is what some in J&K are wary about.
    • However, any such major amendment is subjected to Judicial Review i.e  Supreme Court would review such an amendment.

Possibilities of Judicial outcome

  1. Article 370 forms the basic feature of constitution in terms of relationship of Union of India  with J& K . Thus this amendment may be rejected by the SC,  OR
  2. Amendment may be upheld by the SC and Article 370 would stand amended there by making J&K just like any other state of India in terms of status.

It is debatable whether this Article should be repealed or not. However, from historical underpinnings it is clear that it was introduced as a temporary measure. Thus there is a need for a detailed debate among all stakeholders and  reach consensus. Any hasty measure from either side would only escalate tension, which at all costs should be avoided.

The Grand Indian Spectacle: Elections 2014

IT has started! The grand elections to the biggest democracy in the world-INDIA!

Today is the polling day in Delhi. Till date, I have been a mute spectator of this years elections debacle. Staying in Delhi for almost a year and half, I have been able to witness and experience the heat of the political and ideological battle initiated by the emergence of AAP. It feels good to be a midst the center of action. As a native of MP, and later on living an isolated student life at the confines of the lush green campus of IIT Bombay, I must say, that I till date I only have been on the fringe of political drama.

Who will Lead us, Empower Masses, Stop Corruption?

Nowadays there is a wave of marketing campaigns for the BJP Prime Ministerial candidate- Mr. Modi. He is being the portrayed as the leader who will relieve this country from all its ills. A leader who can be a brave commander, as suggested by the slogan "56 Inch ki Chaati"- a symbol of masculinity and strength. I must agree, Mr. Modi's personality resonates with the ideal image of a strong leader, being capable to lead from front.

However it often makes me ponder:

  • whether an 'apparent strong personality' guarantee an effective leader?
  • Can a strong leadership actually manifest itself in form of an efficient government delivering inclusive growth?
More importantly, what does our democracy actually need today- a strong leader, or an effective government, or both? and if yes, then WHY?

What do we want from our Government?

As an observer of contemporary political commentary, models of governance, and the economic situation of the country, I must say that there is a lot to aspire- for us, and for the nation, both.

Mujhey Chahiye Insaaf!!

I believe, the prime objective of an elected government is to provide a secure ecosystem of inclusive governance, enabling a happy and prosperous life for the citizens of its nation. This can only happen when there is social, political, and economic justice

The democratic model of our country, strives towards the inclusion of voices of different sections of the community, by Representative politics. However every system has its short comings; the same is true with ours. Despite all efforts there still is a section of citizens whose voices go unheard. This is either due to the inadequate representation, or lack of political will.

Janta ki Awaaz

On the social front, we have seen the uprising of the citizens of our country, in form of protests towards heinous crimes against women. That one incident in December 2012 stirred our country from within. The frustration within the people was vented out, and found a voice in form of agitation, demonstration, and mass protests. It was unprecedented and unique, as it was totally a non-political movement. Perhaps for the first time in the history of independent India, people joined hands together and expressed themselves in such a revolutionary manner.

Meri Kahani, Facebook ki Zabaai!

Emergence of Social media in form of Facebook and Twitter played a pivotal role in exchange of ideas, and informing masses. It was the sole reason, behind such an organised effort, which mirrored the sentiments of the populous. 'NO MORE SHALL WE TOLERATE THIS' was the roaring voice. People wanted CHANGE!

The movement gradually dissipated, as it was bound to happen. For the very reason, that nothing lasts forever! But it did initiate a process of change, in the political maturity of the Indian citizens. People realised the power of their own voice, and the impact it can have. Perhaps, it will be seen as the defining movement of Indian history, which is yet to unfold.

AAP kon hain?

These very years also witnessed a political agitation in form of AAP- a party stemming out of the 'India Against Corruption' movement. I don't want to delve into the details, nor I want to take a stand, for and against this new born party, or on its short stay as Delhi's government. I rather want to emphasize on the way it affected the general populous. But that comes later. Let's come back to today, and talk more about the Modi wave.

"Ab ki baar, Modi Sarkaar"
If you watched any T-20 match streaming on Start Sports, you must have heard it at least 80 times(twice after every over). As a Cricket enthusiast, I tend to watch a lot of matches, all on online streaming. As a result this slogan is now on my lips. I can't help it, it is catchy indeed. Good work by the BJP's campaigning wing. No doubt it will catch the attention of the listeners, and yes, it is a indeed a good publicity tool. However, will it compel people to vote for their cause? Well, I have my doubts. Atleast not me; I need much more than a catchy slogan to be convinced.

I have not been a fan of BJP, nor I am an admirer of UPA. I am making my opinion based on the last 10 years of UPA rule. UPA has done some good things in their tenure, and they have screwed some. As I mentioned earlier, there is work to be done, a nation to be driven; We need an efficient and effective government for that.

So does Modi Sarkaar guarantee that? Well, no one can be certain. It may, it may not. BJP released its manifesto just a couple of days before the polling. For my eyes it doesn't offer anything radical. Not that I was expecting so. I feel that radical is not required. What is indeed required, is a functioning parliamentary machinery, 'without breaks', which has meaningful debates, discussion, and formulates legislation, and policies.

Parliament: For Discussion or Walkouts?

Regarding the governance issues, I think we can't judge any party as to who will perform better. We only have an option to provide them with a chance with hope of change. UPA's second term was fraught with Policy Paralysis which was a direct result of a dysfunctional legislature. At  many occasions
I have seen the Parliament getting adjourned due to disruptions, agitations and walkouts. The principal opposition was many times the initiator. I am not judging the party on ethical grounds but I want to know how can a legislation be passed when the house itself is not allowed to function? Few bill were still passed but in a hasty manner without much deliberation and debate.

I would have wanted a more responsible action by the principal opposition. But every thing has a motive. Here it seems to be political leverage. Even on criticisms on certain bills, the rationale seemed to be absurd and hard to digest. For eg the Land Boundary Agreement Bill was vehemently opposed on ground of exchange of territory between India and Bangladesh. Non-passage of the bill ensured that we lost cooperation from Bangladesh on bilateral issues. It even poses a threat to the present pro-India Awami League government in Bangladesh when they fight the next elections. What, if an anti-India government gets installed in our neighborhood? Well I will leave it to your imagination.

Responsible Opposition:Is it an Oxymoron??

There are many more events which formulated by opinion of BJP. For me, it didn't serve as a responsible opposition. 'But hey, it is politics! Things like these are bound to happen'- that's what most of us say when we hear this argument and we accept it. But NO. This is not how a parliament is supposed to function. Dysfunctional house hurts the country(read people) the most . We vote governments to function efficiently and expect opposition to act as checks and Balances. However trends like these would set an unhealthy precedence. It may make the incumbent government look incompetent and slow but to an aware individual capable of formulating his own opinion would only be an act of desperation.

We were taught when we were kids, that if you want to be appreciated you have to be act than others and not by making others look bad. There is big difference and it becomes even bigger when it is observed in the highest law making chamber of a nation- the Parliament. It is supposed to be a scared place where exchange of ideas take place, where representatives of people voice their opinion, where they criticize making rational arguments- all for addressing the inadequacies in the proposed legislation and make it better. So for me it was a definite turn off.

Congress: An army without an 'Empowered' Leader

Don't take me wrong. I am not favoring the UPA here either. Let's analyse though. People blame them for policy paralysis but I see the opposition equally responsible. People blame them for economic slowdown, but I can't find any concrete evidence that it was due to bad policies or poor execution by UPA. I see the international economic situation as the main culprit.

What else? Corruption, aah! Well they can't deny the wrong doings of some of their ministers. The 2G scam, the Coalgate issue, the Augusta Westeland Chopper deal etc etc cropped up in their second term and should definitely be reprimanded. For a developing nation like India corruption is the biggest evil and shouldn't be tolerated at all. Despite all this, we can't ignore the good work by UPA (MGNREGA, NRHM, JNNURM, Food Security Act etc etc). But I won't support UPA either.

To me the biggest turn off was the leadership. The PM was clearly no more than a hired CEO with limited autonomy. The real leaders were behind the line and not part of the governance. Despite all this UPA would have had good chances in the elections. But the biggest short coming of Congress is that they lack a leader. And by that I mean a person who looks like one. They pitched Rahul Gandhi and his leadership and diplomatic qualities were tested when he came in front of the camera. It was not impressive at all. May be it is not a true reflection of his qualities but it doesn't matter in the world of cut throat politics. The public opinion had been formed and was difficult to change.

One can imagine how will a leaderless army perform in war. They can hope to win on some front as small units but in order to win the War they need a leader who can inspire them. I view the current state of congress in the similar manner.

AAP Jisa koi meri, Zindagi main aaye~~

I can almost sense that you shall be thinking that I am an AAP supporter or worse the Third Front advocate. No, I m not! Let's leave AAP aside and talk of other parties. I feel that SP, BSP, NCP, CPI(M), CPI, TMC, RJD,JDU etc etc are mainly regional parties and might be favored/disfavored based on regional aspirations. That leaves AAP.

I have seen people criticizing AAP based on their tactics and their brief stint as the state government of Delhi. There are many arguments against and for AAP. I would not go into the details. But I think at this point of time AAP is too nascent to govern the country. They are still to be tested as administrators. But to me a party like AAP should definitely sit in the parliament. Again, I am not an AAP supporter. As I said earlier that I am just a spectator. People questioned why didn't they prove themselves as an efficient administrator in Delhi. Some say they could have waited for  5 more years. Well this could be have been done. But analyzing it form a tactical vantage point, it was the right move for the party to go into the LS elections and en-cash on their popularity.Besides this they couldn't have managed ruling the state and fighting the LS elections simultaneously owing to resources constraints. We must remember that AAP didn't have absolute majority in the state assembly, thus they were bound to face serious problems in introducing reforms through legislature. The Lokpal bill was just the start.

I personally think that the established political houses wouldn't want to see AAP thrive as a political party, let alone being seen as an able administrator. Thus one might even think of a scenario when the arch rivals collaborate behind the scenes to erect roadblocks impeding the progress of the government. Or worse try to defame it or even pull it down. We must remember that the we are talking of parties which are seasoned in politics. And Politics have no rules!

AAP: A worthy opposition?

AK seems to be a rational person. Only time will tell how good an administrator he is and whether AAP is worthy of being given a chance to rule this nation. But given the brand of politics at this moment, I'd want AAP to win atleast 20 seats and become a part of the parliament. They could bring plurality of views in the house and can prove to be a worthy opposition. We can't ignore that their advent to the political scenario has already sown seeds of change in the political thinking of nation as whole. All parties today talk of no corruption. Just be a judge for yourself and compare the scenario to 10 years ago when we all had given up on corruption and transparency. RTI was the result of efforts of AK, and it today has become a lethal weapon against the corrupt. Who knows what else might come in the similar fashion.

Aap ka Vote, Aap ki Sakar

Well it could have been a slogan for AAP. But should I vote for AAP blind-folded, NO! I will chose to vote based on the candidate rather than considering party banners. This would ensure that only the worthy candidates reach the parliament. This itself would ensure a win for democracy where decriminalization of politics is the new mantra.

At last I would urge the fellow voters to go out and vote for the most worthy candidate. The credentials speak for themselves. No catchy lines like 56 inch in Chati, hollow phrases like Empowerment or the lure of aam admie should influence you. As a voter you should try to looking beyond the hollow promises and the marketing campaign and vote for the candidate you think would bring the change in your locality.

If we ensure that worthy people are chosen for our areas then the national picture is bound to improve, no matter which party is at rule. After all we strive to be a great nation and that is not possible without mature and rational citizens.

So, go out there and VOTE!!
